Selangor Government Unveil RM1.6b Budget

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government yesterday unveiled its RM1.6 billion budget for 2012, an increase of 11.89 per cent from this year’s RM1.43 billion.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim also announced RM300 million “Selangorku Grant” programme, which he said would strengthen the state economy through 17 new programmes.

“The welfare of the people are foremost in this budget. That is why RM50 million has been allocated to improve public facilities like roads and drainage systems,” said Khalid when tabling the budget at the state assembly sitting.

He also announced the setting of RM1,500 as minimum wage for employees of state government-owned companies, beginning next year.

“For the companies¬† with¬† weak financial standing, the government will allocate RM10 million to help them out.”

Later, when asked on claims by the opposition that the RM10 million allocation for the minimal wage fund was from asset sales of Selangor State Development Corporation, Khalid said the funds were from the Menteri Besar Incorporated’s earnings from state government-linked companies.
