THE ORIGIN OF THE NAME SELANGOR
Although there are many claims about the origin of the name ‘Selangor’, but the history was proven that the name ‘Selangor’ was taken from the name of Selangor River, which flow to Malacca Strait via settlements area known as Kuala Selangor. Selangor, also known by its Arabic honorific, Darul Ehsan. Darul Ehsan means Abode of Sincerity.
LOCATION
Selangor is one of the 13 states of Malaysia located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is bordered by Perak to the north, Pahang to the east, Negeri Sembilan to the south and the Strait of Malacca to the west. The federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were also under Selangor’s sovereignty.
Generally, Selangor irrigated by four major river basins: basin of Langat River and basin of Klang River located at the southern part while basin of Bernam River and basin of Selangor River in the north.
CAPITAL CITY AND ROYAL CAPITAL
Shah Alam, the first city in Selangor is the capital state while the royal capital is at Klang. Petaling Jaya, another major urban centre in Selangor was awarded city status on June 20, 2006.
